Update from the Syllabus National Advisory Committee (Spring 2026)

On behalf of the RAIC Syllabus National Advisory Committee (SNAC), I am pleased to share an update on recent activities and progress in the RAIC Syllabus program.

The Syllabus program continues to host welcome meetings at the start of each term. These well-attended sessions provide valuable opportunities to connect new students with the Syllabus community. The operational team will continue hosting these sessions twice per year.

The review and updating of Syllabus policies and procedures is ongoing to ensure continued alignment with program needs and to enhance the student experience. To further strengthen coordination, Athabasca University and the Syllabus administrative office continue to meet quarterly to maintain consistent alignment and communication.

SNAC continues to meet regularly. Recent discussions and outputs include:

  • Completion of the Syllabus Experience Survey analysis, capturing feedback from students and instructors to identify strengths and priority areas for improvement. The administrative team is developing an action plan to implement the updates to the Syllabus program based on the Syllabus Experience Survey and SNAC dialogue.
  • Sub-committee of the SNAC has provided their input on the review of the thesis process. The administrative team is developing an action plan to implement the recommendations of the sub-committee, reviewed by SNAC, and update the thesis process and resources.

The Syllabus team remains committed to continuous improvement, alignment with academic and professional standards, and supporting the success of Syllabus students. These efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to maintaining a rigorous, responsive program that supports the professional growth of future architects across Canada.

On behalf of the Syllabus National Advisory Committee,

Gordon Richards, ARCHITECT AIBC, CP, FRAIC
