Syllabus Bulletin - July 2025

Term 2 Registration  
Registration for Term 2 opens on June 15 and closes on July 31.  

Please note that design studio courses must be completed through the RAIC Syllabus Program. We do not accept Athabasca University (AU) ADST studios as equivalent. Students can register for their studio courses through the Syllabus Student Portal under the Courses & Registrations section.  

Term Start Date  
Term 2 begins on September 1, 2025. Each design studio location will determine exact schedules and start dates. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to your studio coordinator(s).  

Course Completion Verification  
If you have completed a prerequisite History, Theory, or Technical (H/T/T) course through AU and it is not reflected as completed in your records, please email your statement of grades to: info@raic-syllabus.ca  

We have launched revised course codes associated with the RAIC Syllabus History, Theory, and Technical (H/T/T) courses. For example, ARCH 330 Architectural Design Theory Fundamentals will now be ARCH 243 Architectural Design Theory Fundamentals. 

This update does not impact the course content or sequence requirements for Syllabus students.  

If you are currently taking a History, Theory, or Technical course under the old codes through Athabasca University and have not already registered on the Syllabus Student Portal, please register by August 31, 2025, so your student records reflect the correct course code.  

If you are registering for one of the History, Theory, or Technical courses under the new codes through Athabasca University, please wait until the new course codes are launched on the Syllabus website in September.  

Students in Part 2 of the Syllabus Program will be required to manually register for APST505 Advanced Structures and ARCH653 Contemporary Architectural Theory & Research with Athabasca University’s Faculty of Science and Technology graduate program administrators. 

Steps to manually register for APST505 and ARCH653: 

1. Request a Letter of Enrollment from info@raic-syllabus.ca
2. Send the signed Letter of Enrollment to fst_grad_success@athabascau.ca and request assistance registering for the applicable course.

We are looking forward to the start of the next term. In preparation for that, the RAIC Syllabus National Office will be hosting a welcome meeting open to everyone in the Syllabus community. This is an excellent networking opportunity where you will get the chance to talk to students from other studios.     

In addition, we welcome any ideas and questions that you would like discussed in the meeting. You may send your suggestions via email to info@raic-syllabus.ca 

The meeting will be held Thursday, August 28th at 6 p.Pm.M   EST. The meeting is open to everyone. Pre-registration is required. 

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. If you have any questions, please submit them in advance via email to info@raic-syllabus.ca

To receive credit for completed Design Studio courses, students must submit design documentation at the end of each term. This documentation becomes part of the official Student Portfolio and is a critical component of program assessment. 

Submission Requirements 
All documentation must be uploaded as a single PDF and include the following elements, in order: 

• Coversheet 
  A typed summary prepared by the student describing the intent, concept, design process, and final resolution of the studio assignment(s). 

• Assignment Outline 
  A copy of the assignment brief issued by the Studio Coordinator, Instructor, or Mentor. 

• Design Work 
  Drawings and photographs of physical and/or digital models. All images, text, and graphics must be clear and legible. Submissions that are blurry, incomplete, or difficult to interpret will not be accepted.

All Syllabus Students enrolled in Parts 2 and 3 of the Program are required to work under the supervision of an architect licensed to practice in their applicable ROAC jurisdiction. All professional experience must be recorded in the Canadian Experience Record Book (CERB).   

Submission Requirements

Students must submit their CERB experience logs after every 900-1000 hours of experience, and no later than eight weeks following the end of the recorded experience period. 

Submissions received after eight weeks or exceeding 1000 hours will be subject to a late processing fee of $115.76 per log.   

On Page 4 of the CERB log, all hours must be rounded to the nearest 15-minute interval. 

For detailed guidance on completing and submitting CERB logs, please refer to the Architectural Experience Manual.   

Students approaching the end of their Part 1 studies, who have been accruing hours while working under a Canadian licensed architect, must submit their back entered hours immediately prior to starting Part 2. 

Reminder: Students may record up to seven continuous years of Canadian architectural experience accrued before  starting Part 2, and a maximum 4,900 hours can be back-entered as follows:  

• Part 2 - 2450 hours
• Part 3 - 2450 hours

All backlogged hours must be divided into 900-1000 hour logs.

Athabasca registration

The registration deadline is the 10th of each month for history, theory, and technical courses with our educational service provider, Athabasca University. Courses will start on the 1st of the following month. 
 
Remember to register on the Syllabus Student Portal as well. Our systems are not linked with Athabasca University, so this does not register you twice or result in any fees. This simply allows us to maintain the student records and transcripts in our own system. 

Upon completing Athabasca courses, students can forward their Statement of Grades to the Syllabus office. However, official RAIC transcripts, certificates of completion, and diplomas will only be issued after receiving official AU Transcripts through the secure document sharing platform, MyCreds.  

Statement of Grades and AU Transcripts can be submitted to info@raic-syllabus.ca
