Syllabus Bulletin - December 2025

The RAIC Syllabus program wishes all who celebrate a happy and healthy holiday season! 

Please note that the national office will be closed from December 24, 2025, to January 2, 2026.  All messages sent over the break will be answered in the new year.

Registration for Term 1, 2026 opens on December 15, 2025 and closes on January 31, 2026

Each design studio location will decide if the next term will be held in person or online. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to your studio coordinator(s). 

Registrations received after the deadline closes on January 31 will be subject to a Late Studio Registration Fee of $99.00 plus applicable taxes. Students are encouraged to register early to avoid additional fees and ensure timely placement in Studio.  

Annual Re-Enrollment Fee opens December 15, 2025 and closes January 31, 2026

Starting December 15, the annual re-enrollment fee will be added to your cart automatically at checkout when you register for a course. If you are not registering for Design Studio in Term 1, 2026, you can pay the annual re-enrollment fee on your account by clicking on "Courses and Registration," and selecting continue at the bottom of the page.

Escalating late fees will be charged throughout February. Students who have not re-enrolled for the year will be marked as Inactive starting on March 1. Inactive students will be charged both the re-application fee and the annual re-enrollment fee to reactivate their accounts. Click here to see the fee schedule.

This is a reminder to all students currently enrolled in studio for this term. All design documentation should be uploaded to Moodle by end of term (December 15). To upload design documentation:

1. Access Moodle through the student portal;

2. Select the course you are currently enrolled in;

3. Select 'Studio Design Documentation Submission';

4. Select 'add submission' and upload your documentation.

We have updated the course codes for the RAIC Syllabus History, Theory, and Technical (H/T/T) courses. For instance, ARCH 330: Architectural Design Theory Fundamentals is now ARCH 243: Architectural Design Theory Fundamentals. 

The updated course codes for the History, Theory, and Technical courses are now live in the Syllabus student portal. Students can register under the new course codes through the Syllabus Student Portal. If you have completed an H/T/T course under the old course codes, please send your statement of grades to info@raic-syllabus.ca as soon as possible so we can update your account. 

As a reminder, the updated course codes do not affect course content or sequence requirements for Syllabus students.    

Students in Part 2 of the Syllabus Program must manually register for APST 505: Advanced Structures and ARCH 653: Contemporary Architectural Theory and Research through Athabasca University’s Faculty of Science and Technology graduate program office.Steps to manually register for APST 505 and ARCH 653:  

1. Request a Letter of Enrollment by contacting info@raic-syllabus.ca. 
2. Send the signed Letter of Enrollment to fst_grad_success@athabascau.ca and request assistance with course registration.

The RAIC Syllabus National Advisory Committee reports ongoing program enhancements and activities. The program continues to host welcome meetings at the start of each term. These well-attended sessions provide valuable opportunities to connect new students with the Syllabus community. The operational team will continue hosting these sessions twice per year.  

The review and updating of Syllabus policies and procedures is ongoing to ensure continued alignment with program needs and to enhance the student experience. To further strengthen coordination, Athabasca University and the Syllabus administrative office have established quarterly review meetings to maintain consistent alignment and communication.

All Syllabus students enrolled in Parts 2 and 3 of the Program must work under the supervision of an architect licensed to practice in their applicable ROAC jurisdiction. All professional experience must be recorded in the Canadian Experience Record Book (CERB).     

Submission Requirements 

Students are required to submit CERB experience logs after every 900-1,000 hours of experience. Submissions received more than  eight weeks after completion or exceeding 1,000 hours are subject to a late processing fee of $115.76 per log.    

There has been a recent increase in CERB submissions with mathematical errors. Please double-check your addition in the totals column on page 4 to ensure the totals accurately reflect the hours accrued in each sector.

Students approaching the end of their Part 1 studies, who have been accruing hours while working under a Canadian-licensed architect, must submit their back-entered hours immediately prior to starting Part 2.  

Reminder: Students may record up to seven consecutive years of Canadian architectural experience accrued before starting Part 2, with a maximum 4,900 hours eligible for back-entry, divided as follows:   

• Part 2: 2,450 hours 

• Part 3: 2,450 hours 

All back-entered hours must be divided into logs of 900–1,000 hours each.

Athabasca registration

The registration deadline is the 10th of each month for history, theory, and technical courses with our educational service provider, Athabasca University. Courses begin on the 1st of the following month.  
  
Remember to register on the Syllabus Student Portal as well. Our systems are not linked with Athabasca University, so this does not register you twice or result in additional fees. This step allows us to maintain student records and transcripts within the Syllabus system.  

Upon completing Athabasca courses, students should forward their Statement of Grades to the Syllabus office. However, official RAIC transcripts, certificates of completion, and diplomas will only be issued once official Athabasca University transcripts have been received through MyCreds, the secure document-sharing platform.
