Annual Re-Enrollment Fee due by January 31, 2025

Starting December 15, the annual re-enrollment fee will be added to your cart automatically at checkout when you register for a course. If you are not registering for Design Studio in Term 1, 2023, you can pay the annual re-enrollment fee on your account by clicking on "Courses and Registrations," and selecting continue at the bottom of the page.

There will be a late fee added for any re-enrollment fees not received by February 1, 2025. Any re-enrollment fees not received by March 1 will be subject to an additional re-application fee of $405.17 Click here to see the fee schedule.

Each design studio location will decide if the next term will be held in person or online. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to your studio coordinator(s). 

The RAIC would like to extend an offer of 5 RAIC-sponsored, complimentary registrations for each Syllabus studio for the whole building Life Cycle Assessment workshops being held in 2025. Locations include Vancouver, Calgary, Regina, Halifax and Montreal. Syllabus students, instructors, and coordinators are eligible to apply!

This award was established in memory of Bing Thom, FRAIC, (1940-2016) a Vancouver-based architect of international renown.  His cultural, educational and commercial work has benefited communities in major cities across Canada, as well as the United States, China and Spain. Over his career, Bing Thom was honored with many awards and accolades, notably being made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1995 and as the recipient of the RAIC Gold Medal in 2011. These awards are drawn from an endowment fund donated by the Bing Thom Foundation. 

This award is open to all Syllabus students

The submission requirement is a personal essay of approximately 800 words in response to the following question: 

"Explain how a work of architecture can be transformative. Can you cite examples that demonstrate how the impact of a single building on a community can be transformative? Is every good building transformative on some level?". As well as:

• Documentation confirming the applicant’s student status.
• A completed image index, providing captions and full credit information for each image, if applicable. 

Two winners will be selected, each awarded $3,500.00. Learn more here.

The intent of this scholarship is to promote and encourage innovative, practical, scalable and transferable approaches to sustainable design among the next generation of architects in Canada.

This award is open to students in Part III of the RAIC Syllabus Program.

The below listed documentation must relate to a research, studio, or thesis project initiated and undertaken by the student applicant.   

1. School, Studio Coordinator /or Instructor, and student identification and contact information. 
2. Description of area of innovation research / design (max. 500 words)
3. Overview of methods used to carry out the work (max. 500 words)
4. Anticipated benefits, promotion, commercialization (max. 500 words)
5. Three-page description of project outcomes (text and graphics)
6. Declaration signed by student and professor confirming authorship of the submitted work
7. 100-word abstract summarizing the submission, to be used for possible promotional and / or marketing purposes.
8. A completed image index, providing captions and full credit information for each image, if applicable.

The Canada Green Building Council’s mission is to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places to live, work and play by engaging a national coalition of industry leaders to accelerate the mainstream adoption of green building principles, policies, practices, standards and tools. The CAGBC Scholarship was established to promote and encourage sustainable research and design in Canadian Schools of Architecture. 

This award is open to Syllabus students who were active during the calendar years 2024 & 2025.

Submission deadline is April 30, 2025.  

This endowment fund was established in honour of Kiyoshi Matsuzaki FRAIC, 1943- 2012.  It awards the annual Kiyoshi Matsuzaki RAIC Scholarship to a student enrolled in the RAIC Syllabus Program. The Scholarship advances Kiyoshi Matsuzaki's personal belief in the future of the profession of architecture and his unyielding support of the new generation of students, the next leaders of our profession. 

This award is open to Syllabus students in good standing who have compelted a minimum 50% of the program. 

Each application/ submission must include the following material:

• Submission form
• Academic transcript
• Curriculum Vitae / biography (max. 2 pages)
• Letters of support (minimum 1, maximum 3)
• A one-page statement by the applicant outlining why their application should be considered for the Scholarship
• Examples of academic and/or employed work (maximum three pages)
• A completed image index, providing captions and full credit information for each image, if applicable.

Submissions deadline is 10:00 p.m. ET, May 2, 2025.

All Syllabus Students studying in Parts Two and Three of the Program are required to be working under the supervision of an architect licensed to practice in their CALA jurisdiction. All experience must be logged in Canadian Experience Record Book (CERB). 

Students are required to submit their experience logs every 900-1000 hours, within eight weeks of the experience period. Submissions made after this deadline, or totaling over 1000 hours, will incur a late penalty of $110.25 per log. 

Students should round their hours to the closest quarter of an hour (ie. in 15 minute intervals) on page 4 of the CERB Log. 

For further information on CERB submissions, please refer to the Architectural Experience Manual. 

Students approaching the end of their Part 1 studies, who have been accruing hours while working under a Canadian licensed architect, must submit their back entered hours immediately prior to starting Part 2. 

Reminder: Students may record up to seven continuous years of Canadian architectural experience accrued before  starting Part 2, and a maximum 4,900 hours can be back-entered as follows:  

• Part 2 - 2450 hours
• Part 3 - 2450 hours

All backlogged hours must be divided into 900-1000 hour logs.

Athabasca registration

The registration deadline is the 10th of each month for history, theory, and technical courses with our educational service provider, Athabasca University. Courses will start on the 1st of the following month. 
 
Remember to register on the Syllabus Student Portal as well. Our systems are not linked with Athabasca University, so this does not register you twice or result in any fees. This simply allows us to maintain the student records and transcripts in our own system. 

Upon completing Athabasca courses, students can forward their Statement of Grades to the Syllabus office. However, official RAIC transcripts, certificates of completion, and diplomas will only be issued after receiving official AU Transcripts through the secure document sharing platform, MyCreds.  

Statement of Grades and AU Transcripts can be submitted to info@raic-syllabus.ca
